West Albany (1-0) led after the first half 1-0. According to Roseburg head coach Jim Giraudo, the Indians (0-2) had trouble connecting the midfield to the forward line in the first half but made some adjustments at halftime. “We were much more dangerous in the attack in the 2nd half,” Giraudo said. “We got close, but just couldn’t find a goal.” Giraudo highlighted goalkeeper Gage Hines as playing an excellent game along with the defensive line including Raayce and Archer Bergeron, Jayden Roth and Jonny Yun. Jayden Bangs played well in the midfield. West Albany played a very high pressing game but the Indians defense handled the pressure well and were connecting to the midfield, according to Giraudo. “Every player gave it 100% all game, and we’re improving.” Giraudo said. After starting the season with two road games, the Indians have two more non-league games at home before beginning Southwest Conference play September 20 against South Eugene. The Indians play Ashland in a non-league match next Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Finlay Field.
