Roseburg Forest Products Adjusts Again to Unfavorable Plywood Markets

9:12 PM · Nov 15, 2019

First the good news. All but 1 of the 30 affected Roseburg Forest Products employees who wish to continue working for RFP have been placed at other Roseburg plants in Dillard or Riddle. Roseburg Forest Products today announced another round of indefinite layoffs at its Dillard Plywood plant due to continued unfavorable conditions in the domestic plywood market. In August, the company was forced to layoff 90 employees in its plywood plant with 50 of those receiving job offers elsewhere in the company. Since then, the company has been able to place nearly every affected employee who wished to continue working for Roseburg. Two significant factors affecting the plywood market are imports and competition from OSB panels, according to RFP. Stagnant housing starts are also placing downward pressure on demand for the product. This past month, a group of domestic plywood producers together filed a lawsuit against several U.S. certification agencies for falsely labeling imported plywood panels from South America. The group claims that structural panels produced in Brazil are being fraudulently certified upon entry to the U.S. You can read more about the lawsuit against the certification agencies at the link below. https://archpaper.com/2019/10/us-plywood-producers-sue-certification-agencies/
