UCC Fall Sports Pushed Back To Spring Term

The Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) has released Return-to-Play Guidelines for the 2020-2021 academic year which affects Umpqua Community College return to sports. Last Tuesday, the NWAC Executive Board approved a plan to move the majority of fall sports to winter and spring quarters. Men's and Women's Cross Country will commence in the fall on a reduced and modified schedule. Practices can potentially begin in mid-August if things go as planned. "We are disappointed that we will not be competing in the fall, but the safety of our students is our first priority," UCC Athletic Director Craig Jackson said. "We will stagger practice start dates in the fall and it will give us a unique opportunity to focus on the transition to college level schoolwork and athletic participation without the competition piece happening so quickly." UCC volleyball and women's soccer will be pushed back to spring term. The women's soccer program was recruiting for its first season in 2020 that was going to include an exhibition schedule to prepare for NWAC play in 2021. The NWAC office in partnership with the NWAC Sports Medicine Committee has provided a comprehensive plan of health and safety protocol recommendations for member colleges to implement for practice, competition and championships events. All other NWAC sports will begin competition in winter and spring quarters of 2021 with reduced schedules as well.
