9:54 PM · Aug 21, 2022

Here is the latest from DFPA on our local fires: Firefighters have worked vigorously on fire starts caused by Wednesday, August 17, 2022’s thunderstorm that impacted the Douglas District. Today, we are happy to announce that the majority of fires have been contained. DFPA aerial and ground reconnaissance will continue to monitor and patrol incidents, provide information from the air and scout out any new reports of fire. QUIET MOUNTAIN FIRE (CAMAS VALLEY): Firefighters worked vigorously yesterday evening (08/20/22) and obtained 100% mop up. DFPA crews will continue to monitor and patrol the area for days to come. BEAR MOUNTAIN FIRE (CALLAHANS): Control lines held throughout the night while an infrared camera crew identified hot spots throughout the area. 80% of mop up has been completed; day shift will continue mop up on identified areas, with the goal to obtain 100% by end of shift. DFPA crews will continue to monitor and patrol the area for days to come. DUTCHMAN COMPLEX UPDATE: 95% of mop up has been completed on the last active fire. Crews will work throughout the day to obtain 100% completion. Via DFPA Here is the latest on the Windigo, Potter and Big Swamp Fires Weather conditions: Currently, expect temperatures similar to yesterday, in the 80 degrees and with 20% relative humidity. A slight increase in northwest winds will be seen along Hill Ridge this afternoon and evening. For information on the presence of smoke visit: AirNow.gov. Big Swamp Fire: Firefighters continue to clear the area near containment lines. Some internal heat spots are still in place which will be monitored by using tactics to revive and burn the area where the fire lines are located. The sprinkler system installed on the middle slope of Road 2153 has been successful, avoiding an extension on the fire. Potter Fire: As the fire continues to creep down on Potter Mountain, firefighters find themselves working diligently on hardening the Fire lines toward established fire lines. Heavy helicopters continue to irrigate some burned areas in order to assist firefighters in ground cleanup operations. Firefighters are working to deepen, reinforce and cool the containment lines as the blaze is slowly making its way back to fire control lines. Crusher machinery and chewers are being used to widen combustion material breaks along roads and remove woody vegetation at the bottom of the fire. Windigo Fire: The fire remains in a patrolling state. The Resource Advisory is working closely with firefighters and repair work to finish sooner than expected. Fire crews are working hard to complete repairs to the bulldozer lines and paths that were used for the fire suppression equipment. Resources: 25 fire crews, 11 fire trucks, 3 bulldozers, 8 tankers, 5 Type 1 helicopters. Total staff 719 . ROAD CLOSURE: For the safety of the public and firefighters, please read information on the Big Swamp, Windigo, and Potter Fires.
