The Roseburg girls soccer team defeated Eagle Point 3-0 Tuesday night in a non-league match to get their first win of the year. The Indians (1-1) scored first in the 21st minute on a pass from Katie Knudson to Madasyn Van Acker who scored to make it 1-0. In the 53rd minute Kaitlyn Riley took a corner kick and Hannah Richards scored off a bounce making it 2-0. Then in the 59th minute Katie Knudson took a penalty kick from 40 yards out and scored to make it 3-0. “The girls settled down in the second half, they stopped chasing,” Roseburg coach Kristin Parks said. “They started making runs and making passes. Things we’ve been working on in practice started coming together tonight so were trying to build off that momentum this week and keep it going into Saturday.” Freshman goalkeeper Amy Carpenter got the shutout. Carpenter took over for Knudson half way through a game last Saturday against Crater when it was believed that Knudson had broken her finger. But Knudson was cleared to play today on the field and instead found out her finger was hyperextended and tore some ligaments. There is a possibility Knudson may be back in goal later in the season. “She (Carpenter) played really well. This experience is great for her,” Parks said. “Katie may be able to be back in goal in a couple weeks. Were optimistic about that, but Katie also played well in defense.” Camille De La Cruz moved from right back to a holding midfield position. “She never played that position before but played very well in that spot for us tonight.” Parks said. Roseburg plays against North Salem Saturday at 1 p.m. on Finlay Field.
