The Umpqua Valley Christian boys soccer team won their sixth straight Special District 4 match Tuesday night, defeating Glide 5-1. The Monarchs (8-1, 7-1) were led by Sam Guastaferro who had two goals on the night. Blake Withers scored in the 14th minute for UVC while Sam Guastaferro scored in the 26th and 45th minutes. Spencer Adams scored in the 51st minute and Joe Buechley scored in the 79th minute for the Monarchs. Glide (2-5-1) got a goal from Hunter Rhinehart in the 23rd minute on a penalty kick. UVC had 27 shots on goal and one save. “I thought we played a very controlled game and kept the pressure up high most of the game,” UVC coach Chris Guastaferro said. “The objective was to have continual possession of the ball, while switching the field often and point of attack. We were successful in this and I am proud of their progress and performance.” UVC will play at Brookings-Harbor (8-0) on Thursday at 4 p.m. in the second contest of the season between the top two teams in the conference. Glide plays at Gold Beach on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
