Lots of Sunshine in the Forecast Through Wednesday
We should be getting quite a bit of sunshine in the area through Wednesday. Temperatures will also be rising at least until Tuesday which is expected to have a high of 56 degrees. (NWS Discussion) Short Term - Today through Thursday morning...Sunny skies prevail across the forecast area this afternoon, except for in the Umpqua Basin where persistent stratus clouds linger. For those who enjoy these sunny skies, you're in luck as this will be the general theme for the weather through mid-week. However, if you're one for cloudy days with precipitation, sit tight, we'll get back to that towards the end of the week. Long Term - Thu 13 Feb through Sun 16 Feb 2020. The breakdown of the offshore ridge will be pretty much completed by the beginning of the extended period, and the pattern will become progressive with low amplitude upper troughs and ridges traversing the area. The strongest trough in the series will move onshore Thursday or Thursday night, pushing a cold front onshore Thursday. The deterministic and ensemble solutions of both the EC and the GFS support this scenario. Precipitation will move in Thursday afternoon, and post-frontal showers will persist into Friday. Amounts will be widespread but mostly light with the bulk of it falling along the north coast, Umpqua Basin, and the adjacent Cascades. Ridging will briefly redevelop after this front moves in, so Friday night will be drier, but the next upstream trough will push another front onshore Saturday or Saturday night. Post-frontal showers will then persist into Sunday. Overall, this system will be wetter and windier than the Thursday system, but it will still rate as a light precipitation event and no flooding issues are anticipated. Wind advisories may be necessary over the east side if the current forecast holds though.
