Geneva Academy to Pack 10k Meals for Children in Need
(Release) February 18, 2020 -- Roseburg, Oregon. Geneva Academy students will be packing and sealing 10,000 meals for hungry children both locally and abroad at 2152 NE Vine Street, at their Vine Street Campus on February 28th at an event called FEED THE NEED. Packing begins at 8:30am and ends at 12:30pm. The Academy’s school board intentionally chose to organize a serve-a-thon style fundraising event with a “give-back” of 10,000 meals because they want their students to understand the impact of serving others and the inherent blessing and joy of giving. Through Feed the Need, Geneva students will be energetically helping less fortunate children. “This project will have a triple impact,” says Headmaster Brian Turner. “It helps children in great difficulty, it helps Geneva students to grow in love and understanding, and it helps our Academy continue to provide a classical Christian education.” Rather than the school board asking students and families to sell candles, candy bars, or cookie dough, the students have been asking for personal sponsors to support the service project of packaging and providing 10,000 meals for other children (and their families) both locally and for specific orphanages and schools in hurricane-ravaged Haiti. Every dollar raised stays in our community since the fundraiser will support the expansion of Geneva’s math and science programs and provide funds to hire additional faculty for the growing school. “Instead of purchasing inventory to resell, we’re doing a give-back, 10,000 meals for families who need it is something more thoughtful and way more intentional than filling our friends’ freezers with cookie dough,” says Kellie Trenkle, Geneva Academy’s Feed the Need project director. 1,500 of the 10,000 meals will be donated to five local organizations serving Douglas County’s families: Salvation Army, FISH Food Pantry, Casa de Belen, Safe Haven Maternity Home and the Roseburg Dream Center. The local school anticipates a large crowd will be joining them on Friday. Trenkle says, “Students have invited their pastors, as well as their parents to join them to help pack the meals. We’ve also invited the directors of the five organizations we’re donating to help the children pack. The kids are excited to do this. 10,000 meals is a big number for them. Their enthusiasm and their little hearts being ‘all-in’ have made this project so meaningful to us as a school family.” Geneva Academy welcomes the community to join them in this endeavor along with the businesses and ministries listed below.
