A Message To Roseburg School District Parents
The following is a message that was just sent out to the parents of Roseburg Public School kids. Dear Roseburg Families, I hope this message finds each of you and your loved ones healthy and well. As you know, there is great concern about the implications of COVID-19 in our community, across our nation, and throughout the world. We are taking precautions as a school district and a State to ensure the health and safety of our most important and treasured assets; our students, our staff, our families, and our community. I remain optimistic about our future and confident that we will emerge from this situation with more gratitude for one another and with an increased belief of the power of humanity and human goodness. In light of the COVID-19 public health concerns, Governor Brown recently announced an extension of Oregon’s statewide school closure through April 28, 2020. Governor Brown’s Executive Order directs schools across the State of Oregon to: Remain closed through Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Deliver supplemental education and learning supports to students, to the extent practical, through independent study and other appropriate options. Provide meals for students during this closure. Provide for supplemental services and emergency management services, including but not limited to, the provision of child care for first responders, emergency workers, health care professionals, and other individuals, consistent with any guidance and requirements provided by the Oregon Department of Education. We are developing plans to ensure that each of these items are delivered in a high-quality, equitable manner. Under the most recent direction from the Governor, our students will return to school on Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Our custodial and maintenance staff will e clean and disinfected our schools prior to our students returning on April 29, 2020. We are in the process of developing plans to deliver supplemental education and learning supports for all students. I look forward to sharing details of this plan with you soon. We are currently providing free breakfast and lunch at all schools, Monday-Friday, through the duration of the school closure. Please check the school district website, www.roseburg.k12.or.us, for additional information on meal times and locations. In addition, we will be expanding meal delivery options beginning April 1, 2020. We have begun to plan for child care options for first responders, emergency workers, and health care professionals, and are working with State leaders on details. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this quickly evolving situation.
