Nightly Update for Sunday March 29

4:31 AM · Mar 30, 2020

I want to start off tonight’s update saying that I’m encouraged with how things are going here in Douglas County. Our local hospital and medical providers in conjunction with city and county government have been working incredibly hard to prepare for this virus. So many amazing people working hard preparing behind the scenes, volunteers making masks, staffing hotlines and collecting donated supplies from the community and local businesses. It’s been awesome to see all the efforts to support our hurting local businesses during this time. It’s beautiful to see the community come together. President Donald Trump said Sunday he would extend nationwide social distancing guidelines for another 30 days until April 30th. The President acknowledged Sunday for the first time that deaths in the United States from coronavirus could reach 100,000 or more, adding that if the death toll stays at or below 100,000, "we all together have done a very good job.” The US recorded 18,469 new cases on Sunday for a total of 142,047 cases. 299 new deaths were announced on Sunday for a total of 2,509. Oregon announced 69 new coronavirus cases on Sunday for a total of 548. No new deaths were announced today. Douglas County announced 1 new coronavirus case on Sunday afternoon, our 5th case. In Douglas County: Positive Cases 5, Hospitalized 1, Deaths 0 Our Mask Effort has now raised $3,200 in the past few days. Thank you everyone for your generous support, I know it means a lot to our medical community. https://www.maskeffort.com/ I’ll be giving another update on the Face Shields tomorrow and will either be driving up to pick them up or they will be overnighted down here. More updates coming soon! Have a good night everyone!
