Aviva Health Receives Federal Funding For COVID-19 Response

9:07 PM · Apr 9, 2020

(Release) ROSEBURG, Ore. – Aviva Health received $740,945 in a second round of funding from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to offset costs associated to the health center’s response to the COVID-19 emergency. Last month, Aviva Health announced it was awarded $60,112 by HHS for the same purpose. The allocation was part of a nationwide funding stream of $1.3 billion to support health centers across the country to address screening and testing needs, acquire medical supplies and boost telehealth capacity in response to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic. Aviva Health has put the funding to good use, having established a respiratory clinic and telehealth services, initiatives aimed at preserving personal protective equipment (PPE), curbing unnecessary emergency room usage and providing a safe alternative to in-person care. “Our efforts to address the unique needs of the community during the COVID-19 crisis are paying off,” says acting Aviva Health CEO Edward Larsen. “We’re quietly optimistic the steps we’ve taken, combined with those of our health partners and the community at large, will continue to keep to a minimum the number of COVID-19 cases we see in Douglas County.” Aviva Health is appreciative of this latest infusion of federal funding, says Larsen. “Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are a critical source of reliable health care for millions of Americans, including many people living in Douglas County,” he says. “This investment underscores the trust lawmakers have in FQHCs to help their communities not just during times of calm, but during national emergencies. We’re grateful for their support.” Aviva Health has established a COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center (EOC). It follows a daily battle rhythm that is equal parts information gathering, information sharing and crisis planning. Important initiatives like the Respiratory Clinic and Telehealth Services were first introduced in EOC discussions.
