Fire Burns 1/10 Acre Along I-5 Near Milepost 118

1:02 AM · Jun 18, 2020

(DFPA) Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Douglas County Fire District #2 responded to a natural cover fire Wednesday afternoon near I-5 Milepost 118 northbound. Crews from both agencies arrived on scene of the fire shortly after 4:15 PM and quickly suppressed the slow moving grass fire that was burning alongside the freeway. Firefighters remained on scene of the fire for about an hour, mopping up hot spots and securing control lines. “Even after a significant rainfall event, dead grass is consumable by fire within an hour or two of sunny conditions returning to the area” says DFPA Fire Prevention Specialist Kyle Reed. “The Milepost 118 fire serves as a great example of how fast conditions can change even after several days of rain." The I-5 Milepost 118 Fire burned about 1/10th of an acre of grass. A preliminary fire investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was most likely vehicle related.
