Umpqua National Forest Re-opening Additional Campgrounds

ROSEBURG, Ore. (June 30, 2020) The Umpqua National Forest is announcing the re-opening many of the forest campgrounds to recreational users beginning Wednesday, July 1. Diamond Lake North Campground opened last week. A total of 22 campgrounds will be opening for the public to recreate on over the Fourth of July weekend and into the summer. Forest personnel are working to reopen other campgrounds on the forest in the upcoming weeks. The first priority is mitigating storm and insect damage that have weakened and killed a significant number of trees in our campgrounds this winter. They needed to be removed to provide for safety of the public and staff before we opened the sites. “We are thankful to our hard working staff to be able to open these campgrounds in advance of the Fourth of July,” said Alice Carlton, Forest Supervisor, Umpqua National Forest. “They have worked extremely hard to open these and will continue to prepare others for future openings.” Many facilities, such as vault bathrooms, showers and water systems will be open for public use. Members of the public wishing to utilize these facilities are doing so at their own discretion and must take all necessary precautions to ensure their own personal health and safety. While we are maintaining a cleaning schedule of these facilities we cannot guarantee a COVID-19 free facility. The Umpqua National Forest will continue the closure of developed recreation sites not listed above, such as the Umpqua Hot Springs and its access trail, South Umpqua Falls, group campsites and all cabins rentals and fire lookouts. This order is in effect until September 30, 2020 and may be modified or rescinded prior to that date.
