The plan has been drafted in response to the Oregon Department of Education’s request that all school districts create Operational Blueprints for School Reentry for 2020-2021. The plan follows the guidelines and requirements created by the Oregon Department of Education, the Oregon Health Authority and local health officials and will likely be revised as the pandemic evolves. State officials are expected to release additional guidance on July 21 and again in August. Any plans for the return to in-classroom learning in the fall must ultimately be approved by health authorities. At this time, the draft plan calls for students in kindergarten through fifth grade to return to classroom learning five days a week. A wide array of safety precautions, such as student cohorting, visual screening for illnesses, social distancing measures and a strong emphasis on hygiene, will be implemented at elementary schools. A plan for a mix of on-site and remote learning has been drafted for secondary students, with similar safety precautions in place. Families will also have the option to choose comprehensive remote learning if they do not want their students to return to in-classroom learning. The district will be surveying families in coming weeks to gauge interest in this option. “We know from our survey efforts that many families and students are anxious to return to school as normal, but we must be extremely cautious in our approach to ensure the safety of our students, staff and community,” said Superintendent Jared Cordon. The state is requesting that districts submit their final Blueprints by Aug. 15."
