Tuesday Morning Fire Update
2:09 PM · Sep 8, 2020I’ve been up all night out covering the French Creek Fire in Glide so I’m wiped. But I want to do one more update before I head to bed this morning. I’m not sure about the exact time, but somewhere in the 12:30 am range a fire started out along French Creek in Glide. It burned westward from there and is now past river shore drive along North Bank Road. There are a few dozers and several fire trucks working the fire in that area right now. Updated: As of 8:15 am, the size of the fire is estimated in the 450-acre range now. A level three evacuation notice was issued for residents in the North Bank Road area. I’m sure more evacuations will take place as the day progresses. Anyone along the North Umpqua River, either side from Glide towards Roseburg should be paying attention to how this fire progresses. No school today in Glide. Smoke is going to be bad in Roseburg and the surrounding areas today. Besides the French Creek Fire, the McKenzie Fire outside of Eugene is sending a lot of smoke our way as well, depending on wind direction. Try to stay inside or wear a good mask. The air is going to be really bad. Tuesday and into Wednesday is going to be absolutely terrible weather conditions to have a fire. High winds with even higher gusts are to be expected today. This is going to make it very difficult to control the fire. Stay safe everyone!
