7:26 PM · Sep 14, 2020

The Mt Thielsen fire next to Diamond Lake has no burned 5,930 acres and is 0% contained as of Sept 14th. So far crews have prevented the fire from damaging much of the structures at Diamond Lake Resort. Overview: The fire started on Tuesday, Sept 8th at approx 8:30 in the morning. Firefighters responded to a fire in the Mount Thielsen Wilderness area. The fire began along the tree line near the Pacific Crest Trail within the Diamond Lake Ranger District. The east winds caused the fire to run NW and jump Highway 138 E. The Southern Area Incident Management Gray Team arrived Sat Sept 12th to transition command from local resources on the Umpqua National Forest and give local crews some rest and free them up to respond to other possible fires. Resources on the fire: 2 crews, 1 helicopter, 1 engine, 1 dozer, 5 water tenders, 1 masticator. Total personnel is at 150 people. Current Situation: The weather conditions and smoke inversion have helped reduce fire activity and given firefighters ideal conditions to gain ground on the fire and protect infrastructure. The goal is to keep fire footprint as small as possible and protect infrastructure. Evacuations: A level 3 “GO” evacuation order remains in effect for all homes, cabins, recreation sites, and the lodge at Diamond Lake. Visitor information: Digit Point Lake Campground located in the Chemult Ranger District, Freemont Winema National Forest, remains open at this time and is not under an evacuation order. Campers are advised to check the areas they are interested in going to before entering. Visitors to the area should be mindful of posted speed limits when driving and watch out for firefighters, equipment, and emergency personnel. Road Closures - Highway 138 east remains closed from Idleyld Park to West Diamond Lake Highway, MP 83 junction. Only local traffic and emergency vehicles will be allowed through. For those who missed it, I sent out an update on the number of homes lost from the Archie Creek Fire to date. https://jointracker.com/t/roseburg/posts/5f5ee48b0c2c070004b61ef9
