Fire Lookout on Mt Scott Destroyed by Archie Creek Fire

9:05 PM · Sep 14, 2020

(DFPA) As many of you know, DFPA has had a fire lookout on Mt. Scott (northeast of Glide) since the Association was formed in 1912. The lookout itself was rebuilt several times over the years with the most recent wooden tower being built in 1947. In more recent years, DFPA moved away from staffed lookouts and currently utilizes a fire detection camera system to search for wildfires throughout the Douglas District and other parts of Western Oregon. One of these fire detection cameras were mounted to the roof of the Mt. Scott Lookout. Unfortunately, the Mt. Scott Lookout / fire detection camera was destroyed by the Archie Creek Fire.
