8:21 PM · Oct 23, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Landon Rabern, 39, who passed away October 16, 2020. Landon was born and raised in Roseburg, Oregon, his favorite place to always come home to. He is survived by his sons Atticus and Alfred Rabern, his brother Brian Rabern, and parents Mark and Becky Rabern. There will be no service at this time, just happy memories of the sweet, brilliant man he was. Landon will always be in our hearts and lives. "Goodbyes hurt the most when the story wasn't finished..." A memorial page has been set up for Landon here: https://brianrabern.net/landon.html

Our friend Landon Rabern passed away this last week. Landon grew up here in Roseburg where he went to school at Hucrest, Jolane and Roseburg High School. He graduated in the class of 1999. A memory of Landon I will never forget involved his remarkable mind and his endless determination. Upon beating him in chess, Landon immediately declared that he could build a chess program that could beat me. I told him I didn't think he could do it. He went on to build that program from scratch and teach it to look ahead several moves, teaching it common opening strategies, etc. That chess program did end up defeating me. One of the most amazing things about it was he did this while he was still in high school, back in the late '90s. Landon, you will be missed. 😢
