Sherm's Thunderbird Market To Donate 30,000 Pounds Of Food To Feeding Umpqua
The owners of Sherm's Thunderbird Market, Wanda and Steve Olsrud, continue to give to those in need in Douglas County. Sherm's will be donating 30,000 pounds of food to Feeding Umpqua, UCAN's Food Bank. On January 21 at 11:00 am Steve Olsrud of Sherm’s Thunderbird and Food for Less Markets will help deliver one of their semi-trucks as they continue their annual tradition of donating a trailer load of food. The semi-truck will deliver 30,000 pounds of food to Feeding Umpqua, the regional food bank for Douglas County operated by UCAN. This tradition began in 2006 and since then over 400,000 pounds of food has been donated. “Sherm’s has been such an incredible partner in the fight against hunger," Feeding Umpqua's manager Sarah McGregor said. "They have reached out to us time and again during the last year to make sure we had the food we needed to address the pandemic and local wildfires. This valuable donation will support our continued work providing emergency food to our network of 16 emergency food pantries throughout Douglas County, and the patrons they serve. Together we are fighting hunger and feeding hope.” "They (Olsrud's) do these food donations in Medford and Klamath Falls," Sherm's Roseburg Store Manager John Robertson said. "They donate more as well during the year to the communities they have stores in." Sherm's took over the Food World in Roseburg in April of 2000 creating a 24-hour warehouse style market.
