Roseburg Public Schools To Return Grades 6-12 To Hybrid Learning February 1st
Roseburg Public Schools just announced this evening that Douglas County COVID-19 case and test positivity rates have fallen within the threshold that allows the reopening of secondary schools to in-person, hybrid learning. New cases in Douglas County have lowered to 196 per 100,000 people over the past two-week period, and the test positivity rate is 4.4%. The school district will plan to welcome grades 6-12 to hybrid learning on Monday, February 1. This follows the school boards decision earlier this month to return all grades to classrooms once county metrics were met. Here is the full letter sent out to parents this evening: Dear Roseburg Public Schools Families, We learned today that Douglas County COVID-19 case and test positivity rates have fallen within the threshold that allows us to reopen our middle and high school buildings to in-person, hybrid learning. We are excited to announce that grades 6-12 will begin in-person, hybrid learning on Monday, February 1. This decision maintains our commitment to prioritize safety, follow state guidelines and return our students to in-person learning and aligns with our School Board’s direction earlier this month to return all grades to classrooms once our county met the metrics. We want to ensure that all families have an opportunity to sign up for continued full-time comprehensive distance learning, if they prefer. You should have received multiple communications from your child’s school regarding learning options. Schools will be resending the survey tomorrow. We will assume that those who have not indicated that they will remain in comprehensive distance learning will be participating in in-person, hybrid learning. The district will continue to provide meals to students who remain in full-time comprehensive distance learning. Meals can be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and noon each weekday at any elementary school office. Students participating in hybrid learning will be able to take extra meals home from school to support them on their remote learning days. Meals will no longer be delivered via bus routes. We have been looking forward to this moment for the entire school year and are overjoyed to welcome all of our students back. Thank you for your continued patience and support. Respectfully, Jared Cordon Superintendent Roseburg Public Schools
