The Roseburg girls’ soccer team beat Eagle Point 2-1 Tuesday night on the road for their first win of the season. The Indians (1-4) snapped a four-game losing streak with the win. “The girls are stoked and we’re happy for them,” Roseburg coach Kristin Parks said. “We tried to stay up on it in the second half. We have been working hard on our kickoffs and corner kicks. The girls did a good job, they fought hard. It was scary at some points in the second half, but the girls worked hard together to hold them off.” Roseburg scored first in the 11th minute from 30 yards out on a free kick from Madasyn VanAker. Eagle Point scored in the 32nd minute to tie the game at 1-1. Then the Indians scored in the 39th minute, on a free kick from VanAker that bounced around the box and Zemarah Suarez scored to take the 2-1 lead. Roseburg had 10 shots on goal, while Amy Carpenter the Indians goalkeeper had 10 saves. “Camille DelaCruz, she was a beast, she’s our center defender. Zemarah played the holding midfielder and she really dominated tonight.” Parks said. The Indians host North Medford on Saturday at 1p.m. at Finlay Field. Roseburg has four sophomores and seven freshman on varsity this year. “We’re pretty banged up and a pretty young team,” Parks said. “I’m excited for the win but also for the freshman and sophomore going forward in the future. We have a big game against North Medford at home and this win will keep encouraging them and keep them fighting for the next result.”
