Crater Lake Opens West Rim Drive and North Entrance For The Season

5:40 PM Ā· May 28, 2021

The West Rim Drive and North Entrance Road are officially open for the season! Here's the full announcement from Crater Lake National Park. "If you're visiting Crater Lake this Memorial Day weekend, there are a few things you should know: ā° Arrive Early and Pack Your Patience: The park will be busy this weekend! To avoid long lines at the entrance stations, plan to arrive before 10 am or after 4 pm. šŸŒ… Take in the View from a Distance: Keep back from the edge of the caldera and be careful when walking across snow. Unstable ledges of snow, called cornices, extend beyond the rim. šŸ„¾ Hike Smart: The park's hiking trails are still buried in snow. They can be dangerous and difficult to follow. The Garfield Peak, Watchman Peak, and Cleetwood Cove Trails are closed. The best place to go for a walk right now is along the plowed roadway east of North Junction. The rocky slopes around Crater Lake are also snowy.]"
