DFPA Update On Lightning Caused Fires

A thunderstorm moved across the eastern boarder of the Douglas District during the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 27th, resulting in lightning strikes between the Tiller and Glide areas. The Douglas Forest Protective Association is utilizing both aviation and ground resources, in addition to Fire Detection Cameras to locate new fire starts. Below is the status of the current known fires: Susan Creek Boat Ramp Fire: Located 9 miles east of Glide near the Susan Creek Boat Ramp. The fire is burning between the North Umpqua River and Highway 138E. The Susan Creek Boat Ramp Fire is 1/2 acre in size. Crews have containment lines around the fire and are mopping up hot spots. Hipower Creek Fire: Located about 20 miles northeast of Glide. The fire is located on the Umpqua National Forest but is within 1/2 mile of private lands. DFPA’s helicopter is working to keep this fire in check while ground resources work their way into it. The fire is currently estimated to be 1/10th acre in size. Canton Creek Fire: Located 19 miles northeast of Glide. Single tree burning. Crews are working their way into the fire. Salmon Creek Fire: Located 20 miles northeast of Glide. Located by industrial landowners working in the area. Ground resources are working their way into the fire. No size up is available at this time. Section Creek Fire: Located about 8 miles southeast of Tiller. This fire is on the Umpqua National Forest but is within 1/2 mile of private lands. DFPA crews made access into the fire and confirmed that the fire has been lined by crews from the Umpqua National Forest and that it is in mop-up status. The Section Creek Fire burned about 1/10th acre. Cowbell Fire: Located 7 miles southeast of Tiller. The Cowbell Fire is 1/10th of an acre and is in mop-up status.
