Mystic Mountain Fire - 10:30 PM Update

Firefighters continue to make good progress on the Mystic Mountain Fire, which is located three miles southeast of Glide near the intersection of Little River Road and Mystic Mountain Lane. Five helicopters and one large air tanker were used to slow the fires spread as it moved up the hillside and to attack spot fires that ignited ahead of the main fire while ground resources, including two bull dozers and multiple engine crews worked to construct containment lines around the blaze. Several homes and outbuildings were threatened by the advancing flames and one barn which contained several vehicles was lost due to the fire. At 7:00 PM, the Incident Commander reported that the forward spread of the fire had been stopped at approximately 20 to 25 acres and containment lines were constructed around 60 percent of the fire. 57 firefighters will remain engaged on the Mystic Mountain Fire overnight, including six engines, a water tender, and two 20-person hand crews. Crews assigned to night shift will work to complete containment lines around the remainder of the fire and to start the mop-up process. Progress on the fire has also allowed the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to reduce or eliminate the previously issued evacuation notices for the fire. All homes on Mystic Mountain Lane have been reduced to a Level 2 “BE SET” evacuation advisory while all homes on Little River Road starting at Mystic Mountain Lane up to the Peel Store, including all homes located between these two points, are no longer under an evacuation advisory. Little River Road has also been re-opened to traffic, although the public is asked to watch out for fire traffic which may be working in the area. Personnel and equipment from the following agencies worked on the Mystic Mountain Fire: Douglas Forest Protective Association, Glide Rural Fire Departments, Douglas County Fire District #2, Roseburg Fire Department, Sutherlin Fire Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Douglas County Public Works Department, Oregon State Police, and the American Red Cross.
