Lightning Update for August 3 from Umpqua National Forest

Lightning continues to be received over the Umpqua National Forest. Aerial flights continue throughout the day searching for smokes. Firefighting resources remain at the ready and are working diligently responding to detections (smoke reports) to extinguish any new blazes. All detections are being treated with a full suppression strategy. From July 30th to August 3, 20 new fire starts have been detected on the Umpqua National Forest. The largest, the Windigo Fire, east of Lemolo Reservoir, is being managed by Northwest Incident Management Team (IMT) 6, Shawn Sheldon Incident Commander. Separate updates of this fire will be provided from the IMT. Of the remaining fire starts being managed by Umpqua National Forest resources: • 9 remain fully staffed. • 11 have been fully contained. • 4 have been controlled and are in patrol status. • 2 have been called out. Estimated Acreages: • Forebay One – 3 acres; 50% contained • Dorothy Creek – 3 acres • Fire # 269 is an emerging incident – 3 acres • All remaining starts are less than 1 acre. Closures: For public and firefighter safety, closures of multiple of roads, trails, and campgrounds remain in place. These include: Forest Service Roads (FSR): • FSR 60 from Kelsey Valley Rd east to the Forest boundary. The Deschutes NF has also closed FSR 60 to the east. • FSR 2610 from Lemolo dam to the junction of FSR 2154 on Calapooya Mt. Forest Trails: • Windigo Pass (#1412), • Porcupine Cut-off (#1412A) • Tenas Peak T (#1445) • North Umpqua Trail (#1414) -from FSR 60 to PCT • Maidu Lake Loop (#1414Y) • Waterbag Way (#1455) • Calamut Lake (#1494) • Tolo Creek (#1466) • Warm Spring Trail (#1499) • Lucile Lake (#1459) • Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is closed from State Hwy 138 (PCT mile 1,848) to State Hwy 58 (PCT mile 1,908) due to both the Windigo Fire and the Potter Fire, burning just to the north on the Willamette National Forest.
