Aviva Health Mobile Medical Unit to Provide Care for Diamond Lake Residents

8:57 PM · Sep 23, 2022

Aviva Health’s Mobile Medical Services team plans to deploy one of its mobile medical units (MMU) to Diamond Lake Friday, October 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., bringing important health care services to one of Douglas County’s most medically underserved areas. The MMU will set up shop at the Diamond Lake Gas Station, 350 Resort Drive, where it will co-locate with Feeding Umpqua’s Outpost Mobile Food Center. People may call (541) 672-9596 to schedule an appointment. Aviva Health owns two mobile medical units that were assigned to the organization by the Douglas County Commissioners at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. They proved instrumental in delivering vaccination, testing and support services to residents and other health care organizations across Douglas County after COVID-19 took hold in the area. During the delta surge, the larger of the two MMUs served as a pre-emergency department triage for CHI Mercy Health Mercy Medical Center at a time when the hospital was desperately working to protect capacity in its intensive care unit and emergency room. It’s one of many ways Aviva Health leveraged the MMUs during the pandemic. While COVID-19 persists locally, the time has come for Aviva Health to use its MMUs in a more traditional sense, and according to Darby Baker, director of Clinical Operations at Aviva Health, monthly outreach to the people living around Diamond Lake is an important use of resources. “There are many small, geographically isolated communities in Douglas County that lack access to reliable health care, and the Diamond Lake area is one of them,” says Baker. “Our mobile medical units allow us to bring medical services to locations like Diamond Lake on a regular basis to ensure people receive the ongoing care they need to live healthy lives.” The MMU offers general and preventative health care for children and adults, chronic disease management, immunizations, referrals to specialists, and health education. After its October 14 maiden voyage, the MMU will deploy monthly to the same Diamond Lake location. People are encouraged to like Aviva Health’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/avivahealthor) for information on future dates the MMU will visit the location. In addition to Diamond Lake, Aviva Health’s Mobile Medical Services team is currently considering taking the MMUs to other underserved areas of Douglas County.
