Cougar Creek Fire Burning 16 Miles West of Sutherlin

2nd Day Update at 1 pm. Day one’s aggressive initial attack with crews working throughout the night resulted in success. The forward spread of the wildfire has been knocked down and 100% was trailed and plumbed. As of 1 pm today, DFPA crews, contracted hand-crews, and industry resources completed hand-trailing the remaining perimeter of the fire. Plumbing and mop-up will continue. Mop-up will continue for several more days until 100% containment is achieved. At this time, no other updates will be provided until completion. Via DFPA —————————— On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at approximately 1:30 pm, crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA), Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), and local resource fire suppression crews responded to a wildland fire, primarily in logging slash, detected on privately owned property about 16 miles west of Sutherlin. Fire suppression crews, engines, and air attack, including 3 helicopters are currently engaged in initial attack. Additional resources have been requested and a night shift will continue progress. The estimated fire of 40 – 50 acres is currently 15% trailed and is not a threat to homes or structures. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Via DFPA
