6:50 PM · Dec 28, 2022For the eighth year in a row, The Ford Family Foundation is bringing the National Fund for Teachers grant program to Douglas County, Oregon. The program strengthens instruction by investing in outstanding teachers' self-determined professional growth and development to support student success, enrich their own practice and strengthen their schools and communities. From Reedsport to Glide, from Yoncalla to Glendale, all eligible educators from Douglas County public schools are encouraged to apply. “As a former educator and school administrator, I know that these opportunities to learn and grow are transformative—both personally and professionally,” shared Todd Bloomquist, Senior Program Officer – Youth Development and Education. “These grants renew teachers’ passion for their work, nurture connections to colleagues at home and around the world and maximize their impact on students’ lives.” The Foundation will award up to $50,000 total for public school teachers in Douglas County to design unique fellowship and learning experiences with the Fund for Teachers. Individuals may apply for up to $5,000 and school teams up to $10,000. Apply to become a 2023 Douglas County Fund for Teachers grant recipient. Deadline to apply: January 19, 2023 Since 2001, Fund for Teachers has invested $35 million in nearly 9,200 pre-K–12 teachers across the United States—enriching their personal and professional growth by supporting them in identifying and pursuing opportunities that they believe will create the greatest impact on their practice. In years past, Douglas County educators have attended education conferences and specialized workshops and have designed learning experiences that include studying forestry practices in Chile, geology in Iceland, fossils in Utah, ancient cultures in Egypt and more. They return to their classrooms with more knowledge, enthusiasm and tools for teaching. All Douglas County public school teachers who have three or more years of experience in the classroom and are committed to teaching the following year are eligible to submit an individual or team proposal for summer educational experiences they deem relevant to their careers and classrooms – anywhere in the United States or around the world. This initiative is part of The Ford Family Foundation’s ongoing work to support teachers and develop networks of high-quality teachers and leaders in Douglas County, Oregon, that collaborate to drive improvements in the academic and life outcomes of their students.
