New RHS Principal Named for 2023-24 School Year

Roseburg School District is pleased to announce the hiring of a talented educator with ties to the local community to serve as principal of Roseburg High School for the 2023-24 school year. David Vickery, a graduate of RHS, is the current principal of Hillsboro High School. He brings more than 15 years of experience in education to Roseburg School District, including 10 years in administration. “Our staff, administrators and School Board are thrilled to welcome David back to the Roseburg community and to Roseburg School District,” said Superintendent Jared Cordon. “David’s experience in education, combined with his passion for supporting students, will make him a great addition to our team.” Mr. Vickery will step into the position following the appointment of Dr. Jill Weber, current RHS principal, to the position of district Director of Teaching & Learning. His contract, which the Board unanimously approved Thursday night, will take effect July 1. Vickery began his teaching career at Cascade Jr. High School, where he taught Special Education and was Assistive Technology Coordinator in Turner, Oregon. He went on to teach Special Education and was the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coordinator at South Meadows Middle School. He then became Dean of Students at Hillsboro High School before being promoted to Assistant Principal at Hillsboro and Glencoe high schools. Vickery then became Principal of Hillsboro High School, where he has successfully served staff, students, families, and the community for the past five years. ​​ Vickery obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Phoenix; his Master of Arts in Teaching at Pacific University, Forest Grove; and completed the Administration Licensure Program at Concordia University, Portland. Prior to his career in education, Vickery honorably served in the United States Navy, worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Roseburg Forest Products, and was a Survey and Engineering Technician and Project Manager for Tetsuka Association and Lonestar Surveying. Vickery was offered the position with the district following meetings with students, RHS staff and district leaders. Via RSD Release
