Roseburg Parks to Host Workshop to Build Bug Hotels

9:17 PM · Mar 20, 2023

As Earth Day and Oregon Arbor Month approach, Roseburg Parks and Recreation is inviting community members to participate in a unique activity that promotes environmental awareness. On April 22nd, in celebration of Earth Day, the department will host a workshop at Stewart Park’s large pavilion, where participants can build their very own "bug hotel." The "bug hotel" is designed to house beneficial insects over the winter season, ensuring that they stay close by to help maintain gardens during the spring and summer months. The workshop is open to individuals aged 6 and above, and will be limited to a maximum of 20 people. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The workshop will be conducted by the Parks and Recreation staff, who will provide all the necessary materials and guidance to build the insect inn. The cost of the workshop is $10 per "hotel," and registration and payment must be made in advance. This workshop is a great opportunity to get involved with the community, learn about environmental sustainability, and have fun building a unique "bug hotel." To register and pay for the workshop, interested individuals can contact the Roseburg Parks & Recreation program coordinator at 541-492-6899.
