A section of the former Kruse Farms Marketplace property has sprung back to life as a nursery. The new venture, simply known as 'The Nursery', officially opened its doors in late April, reintroducing the beloved property to the local community. The man behind the new venture is Mike Taute, a seasoned professional in landscape and irrigation services. A familiar figure in the area, Taute worked for local Professional Landscape & Irrigation (PLI) company starting as a maintenance crewman at the age of 21. In 2020, he advanced to lead supervisor and had the opportunity to purchase PLI from previous owner Brad Jefferson. From there, he’s continued to grow the new construction and maintenance sectors of the business. The opportunity to establish The Nursery on the old Kruse Farms site presented an ideal avenue for PLI's expansion into nursery sales. As Taute put it, "It was the perfect footprint for our business to expand." This season, The Nursery is emphasizing landscape ornamentals, including trees, shrubs, grasses, ground cover, and a selection of annual flowers, such as hanging basket varieties. However, visitors should expect more than just plant sales. The nursery aims to provide an immersive experience, displaying landscape ideas amongst multiple mediums, including river cobble, decomposed granite, mulch, sod, artificial turf, and boulders. These elements are also available for purchase, offering customers a complete landscaping solution. Regarding operation hours, the family-run business is still working out a definitive schedule. Currently, the nursery opens at 8 am on Saturdays, 10 am on Sundays, and maintains flexible hours between 9 am to 3 pm during weekdays. Despite being an Idaho native, Taute has called Oregon his home since graduating high school. His excitement about reviving the iconic spot is palpable. "We have enjoyed bringing life back to this iconic spot. We are definitely honored to call this corner our new home!" In addition to his current offerings, Taute shared plans for future expansion that involve reintroducing local favorites such as a corn maze, pumpkins, and Christmas trees. Expressing gratitude for the community's support, Taute ended with, "So far we are really excited and super stoked on all the community support we have already received."
