Oregon Groups Unite for Pacific Crest Trail Maintenance on July 15, 2023

6:15 PM · Jun 20, 2023

In an inspiring mission to preserve the national scenic Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Source One Serenity is partnering with the Roseburg Chapter of the Oregon Equestrian Trail (OET). The PCT, a trail that stretches from the Mexican border to Canada, is frequented by thousands of hikers annually, many of whom rely on it for access to campgrounds, local lakes, and resupply locations. On July 15, 2023, Source One Serenity and OET will work together to maintain a section of this renowned trail, situated in the backcountry of the Cascades in Southwest Oregon. This effort is critical to ensure the safety of PCT hikers and to facilitate search and rescue missions, which have been employed on these access trails several times in the past few years. While the work is set to be completed within a day, participants are encouraged to make the most of the beautiful Kelsay Valley Campground by camping the night before and/or after the event. The trails lie within the Umpqua National Forest, an area steeped in rich history, as it has been home to the indigenous people of the Umpqua, Southern Molalla, Yoncalla, and Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians since before Mt. Mazama erupted to form Crater Lake. Participants will have a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital cause. They'll experience the healing power of nature, enjoy stunning views, and connect with the local community of Douglas County, Oregon. This community-led event offers a rare chance to preserve historic trails while enjoying the area's unique beauty. The meeting time is scheduled for 8 am at the Kelsay Valley Campground, Umpqua National Forest, Oregon. Participants are advised to bring their own gloves, food, and water. Additional tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by the organizers.
