Here's the latest update on the injured Great Horned Owl. After being examined by rehabber Meriann Shepherd, it appears the owl was either shot through the wing, or possibly got a single puncture from a barbed wire fence. On a positive note, Meriann said that the humerus was spared. The hole was starting to heal but it has debris and feathers in it, so that is going to need to be addressed. The owl seems pretty strong and is being given mice and some pain meds. Things could definitely be a lot worse. Update: Meriann has been in touch with Dr. Tammy Eichmann of Countryside Veterinary Services in Canyonville and has been getting advice on a care plan.
