What’s everyone’s earliest memory on the train in Stewart Park? I remember climbing around on it having fun with my brothers when I was maybe around 9. I believe train has been there since 1959, so 66 years!

I too remember playing on this train when I was 9 in the early 70s

I remember riding my bike there with my dad and sister when I was 4, 5 and 6 years old and climbing all over it. We lived on Hickory St at the time. That would have been in the early 80’s.

I lived on Keasey Road and could ride my bike to it. We played on it a lot. I remember when it was put there.

Hot summer day's should keep a watch for yellow jackets who have made a home in train. I have taken taken kids, grand-kids & great-grand-kids to play on the train.

I remember climbing all over the train, including on top of it as young as my memories start in the early 80s. It’s such a cool experience for kids to be able to go inside such an amazing piece of machinery like that.

When I was in the 5th grade (1957-1958) at Riverside School (brick building across from Champion Car Wash), Airport Road followed the railroad tracks all the way to Garden Valley blvd. I remember getting out of class to go watch as the train engine was put onto two lowboy trailers and hauled very slowly to Stewart Park. At that time Stewart Parkway didn't exist yet. I think they went down the road by the duck pond as that was the original route to the park.

I think I watched it as a working switch engine south of town in the mid 1950’s. It was either this engine or one just like it.

I remember playing on it, as a child (c. 1988-1994). We used to have so much fun, pretending to be engineers. I remember climbing all over and under it. It was always a popular destination, for kids. “Let’s go to the train.” The best memories of the train for me, however, have to be from when my son was little. He LOVED trains. We would watch hours of train documentaries. He loved to go to the train to pretend to be an engineer, as I used to. He has always been fascinated by the way things work. Trains were no exception. I love that it’s still around and has been part of our family, for so many years. It holds many fond memories.
