5:21 PM · Aug 30, 2019

(DC PR)The Douglas County Board of Commissioners are pleased to announce that the Douglas County Parks Department will begin construction and installation of two new restroom facilities at River Forks County Park, located 3 miles west of Roseburg, on River Forks Park Road on September 3, 2019. In order to construct the new restrooms, the Douglas County Parks Department will be closing down and removing two of the three restroom facilities located inside River Forks County Park starting September 3, 2019. The two restrooms that will be closed are the West restroom located adjacent to the upper playground, fort and whale area; and the East restroom facility located by the all-inclusive lower playground. The restroom facility near the boat ramp will not be closed or removed. In addition, temporary restroom facilities will be installed near the two current restroom locations during the construction project. This project is the next phase of park improvements for River Forks Park that started with the replacement of the playground facilities over the last several years. Guido Construction, Inc., from Roseburg, Oregon was awarded the contract and will be working on this phase of the park improvement. The new restroom facilities are expected to be open before Christmas, 2019. “Willie the Whale” and “Baby Whale” have migrated to a safe location during the construction of the new West restroom facility. The whale duo will receive some much needed structural repairs, and then in the Spring of 2020 will be reunited and placed on an updated pad adjacent to the new upper restroom, fort and playground area. Please note that the construction will limit access to these areas of the park. Safety is always a priority for the public and we are asking patrons to use caution and obey posted construction signs as they play and utilize the park for recreational activities.
