DFPA Responds to Lightning Strikes in Douglas County

The Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) has been actively involved in lightning reconnaissance and initial attack following a prolonged lightning storm that resulted in 76 registered strikes, beginning at approximately 5 pm on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Overnight, crews from DFPA responded to a total of 14 smoke investigations. Of the 14 investigations, 2 were confirmed fires. **Tyee Mountain Fire – Umpqua, ORE:** Located 1 mile north of Tyee Road, estimated to be 0.25–1 acre in size, is 100% lined and 95% mopped up. **Brushy Butte Fire – Roseburg, ORE:** Located 8 miles southeast of Roseburg, estimated to be 0.02 acres, is 100% lined and 95% mopped up. DFPA began aerial reconnaissance this morning around 8:45 am to survey the entire district for any signs of smoke. Ground personnel will continue their vigilant monitoring of the area and respond quickly to any reports of smoke. Additionally, camera detection operators will closely monitor 36 cameras, scanning for any indications of fire. Chances of lightning persist throughout the day, with a forecasted high of 94 degrees in Roseburg, Oregon. Fire danger remains HIGH across lands protected by DFPA.
