First Responders Work Together To Make Tenmile Public Safety Event A Big Success
As the REACH Medical helicopter began its descent towards the landing zone, community members gathered outside the Tenmile Fire Station to watch. Kids looked up in awe as the helicopter came closer and closer to the ground. It was another highlight moment during the Tenmile Fire District’s open house and public safety event on Saturday. The event served to help community members gather public safety information, learn more about disaster preparedness, tour the fire station as well as an opportunity to meet the volunteers. Hamburgers and hotdogs were provided as well as lots of activities for kids. Children got the chance to jump in a bounce house, spray a real fire hose, ride in a firetruck, go inside an ambulance, pet K-9 Grim from the Sheriffs Office, sit in the REACH helicopter as well as watch firefighters take part in a water ball competition. Representatives from Tenmile Rural Fire District, REACH Air Medical Services, Douglas County Sheriffs Office, Douglas Forrest Protective Association, American Red Cross and Winston Dillard Fire all came out to answer questions and meet with the community. The volunteers of the Tenmile Rural Fire District are on pace to respond to approximately 260 calls in 2019 and is led by Chief Travis Henderson. It was a great event and was awesome to see all the various first responders, agencies and local volunteers work together to help the Tenmile community.
