Started in 1992, Music on the Half Shell has been bringing free live music to the Roseburg community for over 30 years. Hosted in the Stewart Park Half Shell, the series has featured a wide range of artists—from jazz legends to global touring acts—and has become a summer tradition for thousands of locals who gather with lawn chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy great music. His music is rooted in classic Crescent City piano styles, mixed with funk, gospel, soul, and Afro-Caribbean rhythm. On June 24, Special EFX performs. The GRAMMY-nominated jazz group has 34 albums, seven Billboard #1s, and a rotating lineup of experienced musicians. The Motet plays on July 1. The six-piece band blends funk, soul, jazz, and rock, and has played major festivals and multiple headline sets at Red Rocks. On July 8, ZZ Ward performs. Her debut album Til the Casket Drops includes “Put the Gun Down” and “365 Days,” and her style pulls from blues, rock, and hip-hop. Seth Mulder & Midnight Run take the stage July 15. They formed in 2018 at Tennessee’s first legal moonshine distillery and play traditional bluegrass with a high-energy style. Matt Schofield performs July 22. He’s a British guitarist with more than 30 years of experience and two decades as a solo artist. July closes out on the 29th with Breabach, a folk group from Scotland that blends Gaelic roots with modern arrangements using bagpipes, fiddle, whistle, and more. August 5 features Jimetta Rose and the Voices of Creation. Formed in 2019, the soul and jazz choir focuses on music that aims to uplift and bring people together. The final show is August 12 with Sinkane. Led by Ahmed Gallab, the group pulls from Sudanese music, punk, and soul. Gallab has released seven albums and worked on projects like the William Onyeabor revival and a musical for the Roald Dahl Foundation. More details are available at halfshell.org.
