Roseburg's New Tennis and Pickleball Facility Set to Open in March

Roseburg is set to unveil a brand-new $2.5 million outdoor tennis and pickleball facility at Stewart Park, replacing courts that had served the community for more than 50 years. A ribbon-cutting ceremony happening Thursday, March 5, at 3:30 pm will kick off the grand opening. The renovated complex, situated adjacent to the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center, features eight resurfaced tennis courts, 10 dedicated pickleball courts, and a suite of upgrades, including new fencing, lighting, seating, a redesigned entryway, and a modern security system. The project's funding came together through a patchwork of public and private investment: a $750,000 state grant secured by Roseburg Parks and Recreation Program Manager Val Ligon, $523,000 from city coffers, and $1.1 million in matching funds raised by the nonprofit UVTC. It's a financial model that reflects both civic initiative and genuine grassroots enthusiasm for the project. And the city has made a point of keeping the facility accessible. Court fees for adults remain at just $2 per visit, while players 18 and under play free. UVTC is also rolling out a new month-to-month membership option for the outdoor courts, $25 for individuals, $45 for households, with no annual commitment required. With affordable access, no long-term membership commitments, and a facility built to accommodate both tennis and pickleball players, city officials are banking on the renovated courts becoming one of Stewart Park's biggest draws. Information on upcoming classes and tournaments is available through the UVTC website. For a city the size of Roseburg, a facility of this scale is a significant addition, for long-term investment in recreation and quality of life for residents of all ages.
