With the win the Monarchs (5-1, 4-1) who are ranked No. 4 in the OSAA 3A/2A/1A power rankings are now in sole possession of second place in Special District 4. Koby Sewall had three goals and two assists to lead the Monarchs. “The game was scoreless for the first 20 minutes Sutherlin was controlling the field,” UVC coach Chris Guastaferro said. “They had three or four shots before we had any. They came out with confidence, athletic kids and great coaching. They knew what to do to neutralize us.” Spencer Adams scored the first goal in the 21st minute off an assist from Koby Sewall. Adams scored again in the 28th minute off another Sewall assist. Sewall would go on to score in the 52nd minute on an assist from Isaac Guastaferro. Sewall added another in the 54th minute unassisted and in the 61st minute from Adams. Sutherlin (3-3, 3-2) has lost two league matches in a row after winning their first three. “They had a one-on-one opportunity on our goalie, Sam (Guastaferro) came out and disrupted the Sutherlin striker which affected the shot and we scored seconds later on a counter attack. We dominated the rest of the game.” Chris Guastaferro said. Spencer Adams, Koby Sewall , Sam Guastaferro and Ramsey DeCoitte were stand out players for the Monarchs according to Chris Guastaferro. Sam Guastaferro had seven saves, while UVC had eight shots on goal. Sutherlin had 11 shots on goal. “That first goal catalyzed our team to play our game. We came in hesitant without a lot of drive,” Guastaferro said. “We might have been a little nervous. It took 20 minutes to get into a groove then we started playing our game.” UVC plays Coquille at Fir Grove Park on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for five straight away games.
