Several Small Fires Thursday in the Douglas District
1:41 AM · Jun 14, 2024Thursday , June 13, 2024, has been a busy day for the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA). As of 5 pm, we have responded to 4 separate fires across the district. 2800 Rice Creek Fire, Winston, OR: Around 10 am, resources from Douglas County Fire District #2, Winston-Dillard Fire & Ambulance, and DFPA were dispatched to a reported grass fire near the 2800 block of Rice Creek Road in Winston, OR. On arrival at the scene, the fire was found to be actively climbing up a hillside in light fuels, including grass, vegetation, and dead and downed trees. Responding resources immediately acted and had the forward spread knocked down at an estimated 2 – 3 acres. DFPA resources, including a dozer, and several engines lined and plumbed the fire. DFPA crews remain on scene performing mop-up. No structures were threatened by this fire. Green Valley Road Fire, Oakland, OR: Around 2 pm, resources from the Sutherlin Police Department, Douglas County Sherriff’s Office, Oakland Fire Department, Sutherlin Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and North Douglas Fire & EMS, Douglas Electric Cooperative, and DFPA responded to a grass fire near the 1200 block of Green Valley Road in Oakland, OR. The cause of the grass fire was a result of a nearby car crash and downed powerline. On scene, rural fire departments had the forward spread knocked down quickly. DFPA crews took over command and performed mop-up until the heat was 100% extinguished and there was no further threat to the wildland. Dairy Loop Fire, Roseburg, OR: Around 3:20 pm, crews from Douglas County Fire District #2, Lookingglass Fire Department, and DFPA responded to ¼ acre grass and brush fire near the 800 block of Dairy Loop Road in Roseburg, OR. Responding crews had the fire knocked down quickly and 100% mopped up before turning back over to the landowner. No structures were threatened by this fire. Mt Reuben Fire, Glendale, OR: Around 3:30 pm, crews from Glendale Fire Department, Azalea Fire Department, and DFPA responded to an estimated 1-acre grass fire located near the 4200 block of Mount Reuben Road in Glendale, OR. On scene, crews found that the grass fire was moving towards timber and had the forward spread of the fire knocked down quickly. DFPA crews remain on the scene performing mop-up. The cause of this fire is human-caused and currently under investigation. We would like to take this moment to remind individuals that the official start of the 2024 Fire Season throughout the Douglas District will begin at midnight. The fire danger levels will be set to LOW and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will be set to IFPL Level 1. Public and Industrial Use Restrictions will be in place for everyone’s safety.
