Tyee Ridge Complex Containment Now at 70%
4:15 PM · Sep 15, 2023Containment across the complex has increased to 70%, and much of the complex is in patrol status. However, today is the third day of high temperatures and low relative humidity that will test control lines. “Crews get an A+ on the first two days of their three-day test,” said Greg Wagonblast, Fire Behavior Analyst for the incident. A strong thermal layer, high temperatures and low relative humidity caused an increase in fire activity with active burning well within the fire’s perimeter. Warm temperatures and lower humidity today will likely increase the visibility of smoke from areas of heat and interior burning vegetation across the fire. Yesterday, September 14, the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) increased the fire danger level to HIGH throughout the district. DFPA responded to and extinguished four human-caused fires yesterday. Fire season is still active, and members of the public should actively practice fire prevention. That means following established regulations that are in place for everyone’s safety. The Douglas District is in Industrial Fire Protection Level (IFPL) 2. For more information about the industrial and public regulations for the Douglas District, please visit www.dfpa.net or call their office directly at 541-672-6507. Yesterday, Tyee Ridge Complex Incident Management Team assisted the South Cascade District with air resources to suppress a new fire start. “Without this assistance, this fire had the potential to grow to hundreds of acres becoming a new large incident,” said Chris Cline, Tyee Ridge Complex Incident Commander.
