Roseburg wrestling finishes 20th at Doc Buchanan Tournament

The Roseburg wrestling team finished 20th with 47 points at the Doc Buchanan Tournament Saturday in Clovis, California. “They think it’s the toughest one (tournament) we’ve had,” Roseburg coach Steve Lander said. “It’s always tough for us with all these highly ranked teams.” “We had four kids with a chance to place this morning, Hunter Blix was able to get into the top eight.” Hunter Blix finished eighth in the 285 weight class. The three other Roseburg wrestlers who had a chance at placing in the top eight were Kahleb Diaz at 126, Tristin David at 152 and Tyler Estes at 220. Instead those three made it to the final 12. “We’ve been coming here long enough to know it’s very competitive,” Lander said. “It’s a great environment to watch the wrestlers to see nationally ranked individuals. We think it benefits us to come here, we wrestled hard. It’s not a place where all of your kids will have great success. Coming to see that high level of competition and being able to watch it at the end is fun.” There were four teams ranked in the top 7 in the nation according to Intermat who participated in the tournament. Thurston is ranked fifth in the 5A rankings and Crook County is ranked second in 5A who Roseburg will wrestle next Saturday. “That’ll be a good test for us.” Lander said. Photo of Hunter Blix.
