Roseburg Pier 1 Final Day Will be March 22nd
The Roseburg Pier 1 store located in the Garden Valley Shopping Center will be closing it’s doors for the final time on March 22. The final day comes a bit sooner than originally expected, when it was announced in early January that the store would close in Mid-April. However Pier 1 store Manager Tami Webster found out a couple weeks ago that the store would be closing by the end of March. Once the announcement was made on January 10, the plan was their freight trucks would continue to stock the store. But incoming freight stopped the third week of January. The Roseburg Pier 1 is one of the later stores to close nationally, but all store closing dates were bumped up about a month. “It really affects how quickly our staff looks for employment. We have about 12 employees right now, so it affects everybody.” Webster said. “Like our managers had a job until mid-April, but now it’s going to be Mid-march, it just amps everything up a bit and puts more pressure on the situation.” Pier 1 filed chapter 11 bankruptcy on February 17. In Mid-March, courts will decide whether or not to accept the bankruptcy. The Roseburg Pier 1 is one of 450 stores nationally that are closing. “The majority of my girls are college or part time workers,” Webster said. “Three of my employees have found jobs. A lot of people have stayed with us. Credit to my team, they said they would stay with me till the end. Other stores are running on low staff. Everybody is looking (for jobs) you just kind of have too.” Sales will take place from now until the closing date. “We update the discounts every week,” Webster said. “Typically that is on Thursdays. The discounts will continue to get larger to get rid of the inventory.” Webster wanted people to know that the closing of the Roseburg Pier 1 store had nothing to do with it not being profitable. “We were a profitable store. We were a lower volume store which is different than not being profitable,” Webster said. “Our team has all heard people say that it’s too bad this store couldn’t make it or no one was shopping here. It had nothing to do with us not making money or people not shopping at our Pier 1, we had a loyal customer base. We did have a great run, for the last ten years I’ve been there.”
