Firefighters arrived on scene to find a slow moving, dry vegetation fire alongside the lower portion of Reservoir Hill.  The fire was unrelated to the controlled burn at the top of the hill earlier this morning.

The acre and a half fire is 100% lined and 50% of mop up operations have been completed as of 6:30 p.m. this evening.  This fire poses no threat to structures or homes.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Smoke will continue to be visible throughout the evening, as crews continue mop-up progress on the fire. 

With dry vegetation and temperatures expected to rise in the coming days, fire danger throughout our area is increasing significantly. The Roseburg Fire Department and Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management want to urge all community members to follow current fire restrictions, use extreme caution with any activity that could spark a fire, and do their part to help prevent human-caused wildfires."

The City of Roseburg Fire Department, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management will be actively engaging in wildland fire training exercises on Reservoir Hill on June 15, 17, and 19, 2026.  During the training exercises, live burning will occur throughout the day.  Training will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day. Firefighters may remain at the training location for an extended period after training has concluded for site cleanup.  

The training exercises will occur on property owned by the City of Roseburg, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, and private landowners.  The live burn training will occur on three separate portions of the hillside to allow for training on each of the days.  In preparation for the training exercises, firefighters will be conducting small, controlled burns on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, to create a safety barrier for the nearby residential properties and the City of Roseburg assets before the larger burns begin on June 15, 2026.

The training objectives will include refresher training on wildland firefighting tactics in conjunction with local fire agencies, continued training on command and control procedures for multi-unit incident response, and eliminating fuels in an effort to minimize the threat of an uncontrolled burn in the area.  

The City of Roseburg would like to thank Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and Cow Creek Tribal Fire Management for their assistance, support, and participation in the upcoming wildland fire training. This collaborative effort highlights the importance of inter-agency interoperability and provides critical benefits to all agencies involved by enhancing coordinated response capabilities and overall preparedness. The Kent Creek Fire, which was first reported at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, has reached its final mapped size of 16.4 acres.

Firefighters assigned to the incident have made significant progress on containment efforts. Crews have successfully completed 100% control line, and hose lay around the entire fire perimeter and have transitioned into mop-up operations. Resources are currently focused on locating and extinguishing remaining heat sources within the first 50 feet of the fire perimeter and working toward achieving the 200-foot mop-up standard around the fire's edge.

Contract resources and personnel from neighboring Oregon Department of Forestry districts have been instrumental in the progress made on the fire today. Contract water tenders played a critical role in suppression efforts by shuttling and delivering water into the fire area, ensuring a continuous water supply for firefighters working on containment and mop-up operations.

Crews from the Oregon Department of Forestry's Southwest Oregon and West Lane districts will be released from the incident at the end of shift and return to their respective districts, where they will once again be available for initial attack response within their protection areas.

The fire will continue to be staffed and patrolled 24 hours a day until mop-up operations are complete and firefighters are confident that all remaining heat has been extinguished.
