Douglas County Birds: Lesser Goldfinch
The Lesser Goldfinch is native to oregon, and can be found all across the western half of the United States, Mexico, and some parts along the coastline of Venezuela. Lesser Goldfinches like to build their nests in willow and cottonwood trees along the river. The female finch builds the nest out of dead grass, leaves, bark, spider web, and other small bits of grass and plants. The Lesser Goldfinch eats mostly seeds and occasionally berries. These birds are very common at backyard bird feeders in Douglas County, especially if you have sunflower seeds and thistle plants.
