Douglas County Birds: Anna's Hummingbird
The Anna’s Hummingbird can be found all across the western half of the United States, in some parts of Mexico and along the coast of Canada and Alaska. The Anna’s Hummingbird is native to Oregon and can often be seen in Douglas County at backyard hummingbird feeders all year round. The female hummingbird will often build a nest in an Oak tree or a sycamore tree. She builds the nest out of tiny pieces of grass, cattail, and other bits of fluff she can find. She disguises the nest with bits of moss, lichen, and other small pieces of leaves she can find. The Anna hummingbird’s diet mostly consists of nectar but they also eat small bugs and insects. One of my favorite things about this hummingbird is, when at the right angle, the Hummingbird’s face is all pink. There are also 6 other species of Hummingbirds in Oregon.
