A Way to Help: The Dry Creek Store
Steve and Nancy Merchant purchased the Dry Creek Store only a few months ago on April 12th. The business had been going well and had really started picking up for the summer when the Jack Fire started on July 5th. Immediately the Highway closed to traffic, and the usually bustling campgrounds were emptied. The normal flow of customers grounded to a halt. The past 11 days, the Merchant’s have opened their doors each morning a little earlier, and have stayed open a little later to serve the unique schedules of the firefighting crews working to save their very store from the fire. While my boys and I were there this evening, a Forest Service fire crew stopped in and Motor, the Merchant’s grey Weimaraner dog, ran out into the parking lot and greeted each firefighter like they were family. It was a heartwarming moment seeing smiles appear as the crew took turns petting their new friend. This afternoon, Highway 138 reopened to traffic after being closed for 10 days and now Steve and Nancy need more customers. All the campgrounds in the area are still closed, and those campgrounds used to keep the store busy all day long. Right before the fire, the Merchants had just stocked up on worms for fishermen, ice cream for families, and beer for everyone. Need a meal? They have biscuits and gravy, deli sandwiches, and hotdogs. After talking with Steve and Nancy this evening, I could tell this has been a stressful time for them. They mentioned that many in the community have reached out and Glide Baptist Church has been very supportive. So, if you are looking for a place to help, go for a drive and stop at the Dry Creek Store. Buy an ice cream, do your grocery shopping, pick up your beer for the summer and help this small business make it through this difficult time. When you get there, don’t be surprised if you find yourself smiling as the friendliest Weimaraner you might ever see comes out to greet you.
This is so awesome! 🙂
