Douglas County Birds: Black-headed Grosbeak

10:08 PM · May 10, 2022

Black-headed Grosbeaks can be seen around Douglas County in areas with lots of trees and at back yard feeders during their spring migration. Black-headed Grosbeaks eat mostly seeds and insects along with a wide variety of berries. Black-headed Grosbeaks nest in trees or bushes near streams and they build their nests out of twigs, grass, and pine needles. They line the inside of the nest with softer materials such as string, hair, grass, and other soft plant materials. Photo by Abraham Finlay in Douglas County
