Douglas County Birds: Violet-green Swallow

7:38 PM · Jul 19, 2022

Violet-Green Swallows eat flying insects and can be found all over Douglas County. I often see them hunting for insects in groups 10 to 20 over fields and bodies of water. Violet-Green Swallows are cavity nesters, they will often nest in old woodpecker holes, nest boxs, and natural tree cavities. They build their nests mainly out of grass, small twigs, and feathers. A good place to watch these birds is in the morning at Fords Pond in Sutherlin. Photo taken a few weeks ago by Abraham Finlay in Douglas County
